COPPIN STATE — The Waves have a 1-0 record against Coppin State. The teams last met in Jan. of 1997 when Pepperdine defeated the Eagles 18-44 in the Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Eagles are 4-7 for the 2007-08 season with a recent loss to Texas Christian (61-58) on Dec. 8. Adrianne Ross was the leading scorer with 21 points and four other players recorded double figures for Coppin State.
GEORGE WASHINGTON — Pepperdine’s record with George Washington is 1-0. The team last met in Dec. of 2001 when the Waves defeated the Colonials 74-72 in the Firestone Fieldhouse.
George Washington is ranked No. 22 this season and currently holds an 8-3 record. The Colonials are coming off of an 85-46 victory against Loyola Marymount Dec. 17. Jessica Adair led the offense with 23 points and Kimberly Beck posted 16 points, all in the second half.
RUTGERS — Pepperdine’s only meeting with Rutgers took place last season (Nov. 17) when the Waves defeated the Scarlet Knights 75-73 in overtime at the Firestone Filedhouse. The win marked the first time the Waves have ever defeated a team ranked in the top 25.
Rutgers is ranked No. 6 and has a 8-2 record this season. The Scarlet Knights defeated Princeton on Dec. 12 (53-48). The win was the third straight victory for Rutgers. Epiphanny Prince had a game-high eight rebounds.
COLORADO — The Waves last played Colorado in Jan. 1981, in Malibu. The team suffered a 71-67 loss against the Buffaloes.
Colorado (7-2) defeated Texas Southern on Dec. 14, 64-29 at the Coors Events/ Conference Center. The win marks the sixth straight victory for the Buffaloes this season.
PEPPERDINE VS. UCSB RECAP — The Pepperdine women’s basketball suffered a loss to UCSB on Dec. 17, in an emotionally charged game that had the Waves up by five points with 1:20 left in the second half. A foul called against Daphanie Kennedy (Oakland, Calif. / Kearny HS) and a Pepperdine turnover in the final minute of the game, gave the Gauchos the advantage (65-63).
DAPHANIE KENNEDY HITS 1,091 AND COUNTING — Senior guard Daphanie Kennedy broke the 1,000 point mark for her career (Nov. 28,) against UCLA.. She becomes the 16th player in Pepperdine history to surpass the 1,000-point level. Kennedy scored a total of 915 points in her first three seasons.
ROSTER — All five starters and 10 letterwinners return from last year’s team, which went 14-17 overall and fifth in the WCC with a 6-8 record. The Waves added three new players (two true freshmen and one transfer) this year. The roster breakdown is as follows: four seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen.
TOP SIX — The WCC’s coaches released a preseason "top six" of the best players in the conference, and senior guard Daphanie Kennedy and sophomore forward/center Teena Wickett earned two of the six slots. Kennedy earned All-WCC first team honors as a sophomore and honorable mention as a junior. Wickett was an All-WCC first teamer as a freshman.
WCC PRESEASON POLL — Pepperdine was picked to finish third in the West Coast Conference in a preseason vote of the league’s coaches. The predicted order is as follows: San Diego, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Portland.
JULIE ROUSSEAU — The fifth head coach in Pepperdine women’s basketball history, Julie Rousseau is now in her fourth season with the Waves. She is a former head coach of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks and was an assistant coach at Stanford before joining the Waves. In just her second season,
