Lemke, Altmann Qualify For Semi-Finals

LOS ANGELES, Calif. Â Two Pepperdine men’s tennis players advanced to the main draw singles semi-finals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Tournament on Friday.

 In the quarterfinal competition, junior Omar Altman (Cairo, Egypt) defeated teammate, sophomore Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France) 7-5, 6-0 and No. 3 seed, sophomore James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia) defeated No. 5 seed, Mike Look (UCLA) 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Alex Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico) was defeated by Nick Meister (UCLA) 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

Saturday’s semi-finals will feature Altman vs. No. 1 seed, Harel Srugo (UCLA) and No. 3 seed, Lemke vs. Nick Meister (UCLA).

In the doubles competition, No. 2 seed Altmann / Lemke defeated Hui / Zeidan (UCSB) 8-2 and Keplar / Moreno were defeated by Siwy/ Zapletal (UC Riverside) 8-2. Altman / Lemke advance to the the semi-finals Saturday, at 3 p.m.

Sophomore Bessam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) was defeated by Alex Clayton (Stanford) in the quarterfinals 6-1, 7-6 (5), of the ITA Indoor National Championships Friday, in Columbus, Ohio. Beidas advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating nationally ranked Erling Tveit (Miss.) 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 (11) in an upset on Thursday. In the consolation round of the tournament, senior Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) defeated Drew Eberly (Ohio State) 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. Begemann will play in the quarterfinals on Saturday (Nov. 3).
