TULSA, Okla. -- Pepperdine sophomore Bassam Beidas won five straight matches at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship to claim the consolation title on Sunday. With the win, he earns an automatic bid to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus, on November 1-4, 2007.
Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) defeated Justin Kornauge of Ohio State, 6-3, 6-2, in Sunday's consolation final. He lost his first match in the main draw last Thursday, then came back through the consolation bracket to defeat Luke Shields of Boise State (2-6, 7-6 (9), 6-3), Andy Juc of Furman (6-1, 6-4), Zach Ganger of Utah (6-4, 6-1) and Nate Schnugg of Georgia (6-2, 6-1), before prevailing over Kornauge.
"I'm really excited for him," Pepperdine Coach Adam Steinberg said. "That was a great, great run he went on. To win the back draw of that tournament is like winning a major championship. He played some very, very good players. I'm really proud of him. He was a little nervous in the first round, but then loosened up and played great tennis the rest of the way through."

TULSA, Okla. – Pepperdine men's tennis standout senior Andre Begemann (Bloomberg, Germany/ Santa Fe College) was defeated in the third round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships Friday morning, 6-3, 6-2.
"For his first big tournament of the season I think he did extremely well. He beat two very good players in the first two rounds," said head coach Adam Steinberg. "He handled the pressure well and I believe this is a good start for him."
No. 8 ranked Begemann defeated Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, Thursday morning in the first round of the Main Draw Singles. He advanced to the third round by eliminating Connor Pollock of Texas A&M in the afternoon 6-1, 6-7, 6-3.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships is a three-event national championship series during the 2007-08 collegiate tennis seasons. Two others are the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
Next up for the Waves is the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Pepperdine Oct. 17-22.
