MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women’s basketball team will begin its 2007-08 season with an exhibition game against Westmont on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. in Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Waves are looking forward to a competitive season with all of their starters returning and three new recruits joining the roster.
“We’ve been working with a new strength program in the preseason. Our players are stronger, more fit and healthier than they were last year,” said head coach Rousseau.
Rousseau expects her four returning senior to take a strong leadership role this season. Guards Daphanie Kennedy (Oakland, Calif. / Kearny HS), Nakeya Isabell ( Seattle, Washington / College of Southern Idaho), Shannon Johnson (Highland Village, Tex. / Flower Mound HS) and post Teiosha George (Palmdale, Calif. / Palmdale HS) comprise the quartet.
The arrival of sophomore post Taylor Snider (Chicago, Ill. / Allen County CC) , freshman guard Katie Menton (Yosemite, Calif. / Yosemite HS) and freshman guard Joy Lelo ( La Canada, Calif. / La Canada HS)should add depth to the Waves roster. Snider was one of the nations leaders for rebounds in junior colleges last year and Menton was named as one of the top high school girl’s basketball players in California for the 2006-07 season. Lelo signed late with the Waves and according to Rousseau, is just the kind of player the team needs with her ability to play up top.
