Men's Tennis Plays in Two Tournaments

MALIBU, Calif, -- The Pepperdine men’s tennis team will send Andre Begemann and Bassam Beidas to the ITA Indoor National Championships, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, Oct.31, and the rest of the team will play in the 51st Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Club on Thursday, Nov.1-Nov.4.

Begemann (Blomberg, Germany) qualified for the indoor championships after winning the singles division of the ITA Regional Tournament (Oct. 24). Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) earned a spot at the tournament for his win in the singles consolation division of the ITA Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tournament (Oct.7).

Competition at the Los Angeles Tennis Club begins on Wednesday, Oct. 31, with men’s qualifying singles. At 2 p.m., freshman Stuart Keplar (Dallas, Texas / J.J. Pearce HS) is scheduled to play Cassisy Mears (BYU)  and junior Troy Aiken (West Hills, Calif. / El Camino Real HS) plays Danny Colton (Azusa Pacific). Sophomore James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia) is the No. 3 seed in the main draw singles beginning Thursday (Nov.1). Lemke will play Jonathan Sanchez (BYU) at 3 p.m. Sophomore Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France) meets Jeremy Drean (UCLA) at 1:30 p.m., junior Omar Altmann (Cairo, Egypt) plays Andrew Pietrowski (USC) at 10:30 a.m. and freshman Alex Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico) takes on Joe Cartledge (Riverside) at 12 p.m.

In doubles competition, Altmann/Lemke are the No. 2 seed. They have a bye in the first round and will play Hui/Zeidan (UCSB) in the second round. The team of Keplar/Moreno meets Fabre/Kpulun (Concordia) in the first round.
