WESTWOOD, Calif. – Pepperdine University Senior Andre Begemann won the ITA Division I, Region VIII singles title Tuesday, at UCLA after defeating Mathieu Dehaine of UCLA 7-6, 7-6.
"Andre played an outstanding tournament. He was up against some very tough competitiors and managed to keep his focus throughout the matches. This is the second year that Andre has won this tournament and I'm really proud of him," said Pepperdine Men's Tennis Coach Adam Steinberg.
Begemann (Blomberg, Germany / Santa Fe College) automatically qualifies for the ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 1-4 for winning the Region VIII title. Teammate Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt) will join Begeman at the indoor championships. Beidas qualified by winning the consolation round of Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Tournament held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Oct. 7.
