MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men’s team had another successful day at the Division I Men’s ITA Regional VIII Championships. No.1 seed senior Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany / Santa Fe College) defeated Matan Shitrit (SDSU) 6-4, 6-2, sophomore Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France /Lycee Francais du Caire ) defeated Yohan Berhof (LMU) 6-1, 6-4 and sophomore James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia / Carey Baptist Grammar School) defeated Bijan Hejazi (UCSB)
6-4, 6-2. Both doubles teams advanced to the next round with No. 2 seed Altman - Begemann defeated Alcala – Hazi (U of A) 8-2 and No. 5 seed Beidas – Lemke defeated Veerepaili – Zapletal (Fresno) 8-1.
Mathew Dehaine (UCLA) upset No. 4 seed sophomore Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt / Manor House School) 6-3, 6-3 and freshman Alex Moreno (Queretaro, Mexico / John F. Kennedy HS) was defeated by No. 3 Haythem Abid (UCLA) 6-0, 6-2.
Friday’s matches begin with doubles play at 9:30 a.m. No. 2 seed Altman – Begemann vs. No. 3 seed Abid – Seguso (UCLA) and No. 5 seed Beidas – Lemke vs. No. 1 seed Farah – Vant’ Hof (USC). Singles action begins at 11 a.m. with Begemann vs. Lamm (UCI), Kamel vs. No. 2 seed Srugo (UCLA) and Lemke vs. Look (UCLA).
