Pepperdine to Host ITA Region VIII Tennis Championships

On Wednesday, Pepperdine senior Andre Begemann (Blomberg, Germany /Santa Fe College) seeded No.1, has a bye in the first round and is scheduled to play the winner of the Jacek Twarowski (LMU) VS Murilo Souza (ASU) match at 10:30 a.m. Freshman Stuart Kepler (Dallas, Texas /J.J. Pearce HS) will face Nils Schive (San Diego) at 9 a.m ; freshman Alex Moreno (Querataro, Mexico / John F. Kennedy HS) plays Stephen Sage (UCI) at 9 a.m., and junior Troy Aiken (West Hills, Calif. / El Camino Real HS) meets Darryn Young (Cal Poly) at 11:30 a.m. Sophomore Mahmoud Kamel (Paris, France / Lycee Francais du Caire) will play Alex Sundling (UCI) at 1 p.m.
Thursday, No. 9 seed sophomore James Lemke (Melbourne, Australia / Carey Baptist Grammar School) also has a bye and will meet the winner of the Kelvin Kim (UCLA) VS Bruno Alcala (UA) match at 11:30 a.m. No.4 seed sophomore Bassam Beidas (Cairo, Egypt / Manor House School) has a bye and will play the winner of the Michael Bejorn (SDSU) VS Joe Cartledge (UCR) match at 12 p.m. Junior Omar Altman (
In doubles action, Kamel - Keplar VS Ceban - Schulz van Endert (SDSU) Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m. No. 6 seed Beidas - Lemke have a bye in the first round and will play Thursday, at 9 a.m. Aiken - Moreno meet Berger – Gerst (UCI) at 9 a.m. Thursday. The No. 2 seed Altman – Begemann play their first match at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Fourteen teams are slated to compete in the championships. Singles and doubles winners will advance to the National Indoor Championships in
Region VIII teams competing in the event are: USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, LMU, UC Riverside, San Diego, San Diego State, Arizona, Arizona State, UC Irvine, UCSB Cal Poly SLO, Fresno State and Hawaii.
