RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swimming team opens its season this Friday and Saturday at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Pentathlon and Relays, hosted by Cal Baptist University.
Coach Nick Rodionoff is optimistic about the 2007-08 season. Four returning seniors and a junior will form the core of this year’s team. Senior Ali McLeod (Austin, Texas/ Cedar Park HS) was an NCAA qualifier last year and a PCSC Conference champion. Senior Jamie Lyon (Spokane, Wash. / Mt. Spokane HS) and Junior Michelle Fadley (Irvine, Calif. / Northwood HS) both turned in strong performances in the Individual intermediate medley last season. Seniors Katie Scora (San Clemente, Calif. / San Clemente HS) and Loriann Mark (Malibu, Calif. / Malibu HS) return this year as the top distance swimmers.
“Last year was our best ever,” said Rodionoff “This year will be even better. I know what I’ve got as far as the returnees,” he said. “After this weekend we’ll have a better idea what the new swimmers can do.”
This weekend’s competition features Seattle, Fresno Pacific, Biola, Soka, Loyola Marymount, Bakersfield, Alaska, Chapman and Pepperdine. The Pentathlon will kick off the event at 3 p.m. at the Cal Baptist Pool on Friday (Oct.12). The relays will compete at the same site on Saturday (Oct.13).
