Waves Place Second at Pepperdine Invitational

Junior Tarrah Crowley turned in a time of 19:43 to place seventh in the five-kilometer run and help the Pepperdine women's cross country team to a second place showing at the first annual Pepperdine Invitational Saturday morning in Malibu.
Cal State Los Angeles captured the event as totaled 23 points and claimed three of the top four spots. The Waves finished second with 66 points and was followed by Cal State Northridge (87) and USC (92).
CSUN's Liz Camy placed first individually with a time of 18:11. Cal State Los Angeles' Maija Rhode (18:28), Karla Alburez (18:42) and Pilar Delgado (18:47) finished second through fourth, respectively.
Kristen Berglas finished fifth to lead USC as she completed the course in a time of 18:53.
Freshman Courtney Smith turned in a Top 10 finish for the Waves as she placed ninth with a time of 19:55. Fellow freshman Marissa Kerby (19:59) was 11th while junior Kyla Maher completed the race in a time of 20:01 to finish 12th.
Pepperdine returns to trails on Saturday, October 1, when it travels to Riverside to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational beginning at 9:30 a.m.
