Michael Putnam Halfway Leader After Two Rounds of NCAA Championships

Owings, Mills, MD - Senior Michael Putnam carded a second-round 3-under par score of 67 on Thursday and leads the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships after 36 holes at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Putnam, who is playing as an individual, had bogey-free round before bogeying the 18th hole and has a one-shot lead over Augusta State's Major Manning (135) at the par-70, 7,131-yard course. The Waves senior has a 36-hole total of 134.
Putnam's round included two birdies and an eagle through the first seven holes before posting 11 straight and a five on the par-4 18th. His eagle came on the par-5, 564-yard seventh hole after a 327-yard drive, 236-yard 2-iron and a mid-range put.
Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro and Washington's James Lepp are tied for third 3-under par totals of 137.
Five players are tied for fifth with 2-under par scores of 138.
Georgia leads the team competition with a 2-under par score of 558 and has a nine-shot lead over Tennessee (567).
Third round action is scheduled for Friday and the tournament concludes with the 18 holes on Saturday.
