Feb. 17, 2005

Final Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine cut a 13-point deficit to just five with 12:05 to play but that would be as close as the Waves would get before falling, 72-53, Thursday night to Santa Clara at Firestone Fieldhouse. The loss drops Pepperdine to 6-6 in West Coast Conference (WCC) play but the Waves maintain their position of fourth heading into the final two games of the regular season.

The Broncos (13-11, 7-4 WCC) moved into sole position of second in the WCC race and was led by Quinn Thomas' hot hand as she connected on 7-14 from the floor in scoring a game-high 18 points. Chandice Cronk netted 14 as SC shot .500 for the game.

Kelsey Ball equaled a career-best with 16 points, while Jennifer Lacy tossed in 11.

Pepperdine (10-15) maintained a lead through most of the first half leading by as many as eight at 19-11 and 21-13. The Waves last lead of the night would fall by the way side as one of Quinn's four three-point tries put the Broncos up by one at 27-26 at the 3:33 mark of the first half. SC would go on to lead by seven at the break.

Of note from the game, senior Shanell Law saw her first minutes of the season pulling down one rebound in four minutes. Also Jasmane Clarendon who scored eight points including connecting on 4-4 from the free throw line went down hard on her right elbow midway through the second half and did not return to the hardwood after receiving medical attention on the court.

The Waves will be back in action Saturday night when it hosts the Saint Mary's Gaels at Firestone Fieldhouse. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (PT).
