Waves Fall to Dons, 63-48, Saturday Afternoon

MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell in its attempt to open West Coast Conference play with back-to-back victories, 63-48, to the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym.

Pepperdine (5-10, 1-1 WCC) trailed most of the way but managed to pull within two with six minutes remaining in the contest, but it would as close as the Waves would as close as they would get as the Dons (7-8, 1-1 WCC) pulled away over the final four minutes earning their first league win of the 2004-05 season and snapping a four-game skid.

Jennifer Lacy paced the Wave's offense with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Syreeta Stafford ended the day with nine points.

USF came out on fire in the first frame connecting on 13-25 (52%) attempts and built at an 11-point lead at the break. Dominique Carter led the way for San Francisco with 16 points. As a team the Dons shot 45 percent to Pepperdine's 35.

Pepperdine will return to Firestone Fieldhouse for its next contest, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. (PT) to face Portland and again on Saturday against Gonzaga. Saturday's game will be televised by Fox Sports Net, tip is set for 7:00 p.m.
