MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team rallied back to within three, 36-33, at the 10:30 mark of the second half, but only scored 10 points the rest of the way as Tennessee Tech claimed a 63-48 victory in the opening game of the Contra Coastal Times Classic Saturday afternoon.
Jennifer Lacy and Kelsey Ball led the Waves (1-6) with 12 points each but both fouled out. For Ball, it was the third consecutive contest she has been disqualified and fourth on the year.
The Waves out-shot Tech (4-1) 62-38 in the game but went 1-19 from beyond the three-point arc in dropping their fourth straight contest.
The Golden Eaglettes shot 89.3 percent from the charity stripe connecting on 25-28 and out-rebounded Pepperdine by a 40-30 margin.
Tech had four players in double-digits scoring led by Kendall Cavin's 14. Emily Christian and Courtney McFarlin added 13 and 11, respectively.
Pepperdine will await the out come of the Cal-Cal State Northridge game to see who they will play in the consolation game of the tournament. Tip-off will be either 1:00 or 3:30 p.m. (PT) at Haas Pavillion.
