Dec. 29, 2004

Final Stats

MALIBU, Calif. - Jennifer Lacy notched her fifth double-double of the season as she poured in 11 points with 15 rebounds but it was not enough as Tulane claimed a 62-49 victory over the Waves Wednesday night in the championship game of the Tulane/Doubletree Classic in New Orleans, La.

Pepperdine (4-9) pulled to within five at the 2:42 mark, 54-49, after trailing by double digits most the game. The 15-5 Wave run was capped on a free three from Kelli Spencer who scored a season-best seven points on the night. It would also be the last point the Waves would score.

Tulane (8-4) was led by Lakethia Hampton's game-high 21 points and D'Aundra Henry's 15.

The Green Wave got up by as many as 21 points midway through the first stanza before Pepperdine began to close the gap.

Freshman Daphanie Kennedy capped off a solid tournament with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists and joined Lacy on the all-tournament team. Lacy added three blocks and a steal to her stat line.

Tulane forced 16 Pepperdine turnovers and scored 20 points off the Wave miscues, while Pepperdine managed just eight points on 10 turnovers.

Pepperdine will return to action on Jan. 6 as it opens West Coast Conference play at the University of San Diego. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. (PT) at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego.
