Led by freshman Taylor Carroll, the Pepperdine women's cross country team placed 21st at the NCAA West Regional Championships hosted by Fresno State at Woodward Park in Fresno, on Saturday.
Carroll clocked a time of 23:04 in the six-kilometer run to place 114th. She finished five spots ahead of teammate Lauren Gray who posted a time of 23:12. The Waves finished fourth among West Coast Conference (WCC) schools, trailing only Portland, San Francisco and San Diego.
Stanford captured the 28-team event as it totaled 29 points to finish ahead of Pacific-10 Conference rival Arizona State, which totaled 45 points. UC Santa Barbara (92), was third and was followed by Idaho (140) and Washington (143).
In the men's 10-kilometer race, freshman Brian Washburn placed 116th with a time of 33:57 while rookie Sam Hudson finished 143rd after clocking a time of 36:02.
