Hall of Fame
From the 2008 Hall of Fame program:
One of the most decorated men’s volleyball players in Pepperdine history, George Roumain was a two-time national player of the year for the Waves.
After growing up in Parkland, Fla., Roumain moved to Southern California for his final years of high school and was regarded as the top prep player in the country. He lived up to that reputation in Malibu during his four seasons (1996-99), becoming just the second player to win back-to-back AVCA National Player of the Year honors in 1998 and 1999. He was a three-time All-American first teamer and a four-time All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honoree (three times on the first team). In 2007, he was selected to the 15th Anniversary All-MPSF first team. He led the Waves to a second-place finish at the 1998 NCAA Championships.
Roumain is Pepperdine’s all-time leader in career kills (2,394), kills per game (6.84), points (2,739.5) and points per game (7.83). He led the nation in kills as a 1999 senior and set the Pepperdine sideout scoring single-season record with an 8.55 average.
He graduated from Pepperdine in 1999 with a degree in advertising.
From 1999-2001, Roumain was a member of the USA National Team. That included an appearance at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where he was subsequently named the USA’s Player of the Year.
Roumain eventually moved over to beach volleyball, and in 2004, he and partner Jason Ring won the Huntington Beach Open, and he was named the AVP Rookie of the Year.
He was named to Volleyball Magazine’s All-Century Team.
Roumain is currently training to play a few more seasons on the AVP beach tour. He also works as a strength and conditioning coach at Wellness One in Thousand Oaks, and gives private volleyball lessons. He resides in Simi Valley, Calif., and is engaged to be married in May to Kimberly Hise.
