Amber Marshall joined the Pepperdine women’s soccer staff in January 2023 as an assistant coach, bringing with her a dynamic blend of collegiate, professional, and administrative experience.
“We are so excited to have Amber joining our staff,” said head coach Tim Ward. “Over the years, we have been blessed with a stable and unchanging staff. Last year, however, we lost a few of our long-time staff members. As a result, we are in the process of rebuilding our staff to provide our players not only with stability, but fresh ideas and amazing mentors for their lives.
“In Amber, we feel we are getting an absolute gem. She is a woman of great character and has shown herself to be incredibly successful at the things she endeavors to undertake. She has also journeyed into the professional ranks and we believe the combination of those experiences as well as her desire to be a head coach someday, will benefit our program in wonderful ways. We can't wait for Amber to be here in Malibu full time as we begin to write the next amazing chapters of the Pepperdine soccer story."
“I want to thank the Pepperdine staff for this great opportunity,” said Marshall. “I am so grateful and excited to be a part of this community. I look forward to helping these student-athletes achieve excellence on and off the field.”
Since joining the Waves, Marshall has played a pivotal role in the program’s recent success. In her first season (2023), she helped guide the team to a runner-up finish in the West Coast Conference and an NCAA Tournament first-round appearance. In 2024, she contributed to another historic season as the Waves earned a WCC co-championship and returned to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking back-to-back postseason appearances during her tenure.
Before her time at Pepperdine, Marshall served as the Director of Operations and Player Development at Utah State from 2021 to 2022, overseeing all aspects of team logistics, travel, scheduling, and daily operations—while also earning her Master’s degree in Sports Administration. She then transitioned into a Volunteer Assistant Coach role in 2022, with a primary focus on the team’s defensive unit. Under her guidance, the Aggies recorded 10 shutouts, a 0.85 goals-against average, and a 0.746 save percentage.
Marshall’s playing career includes professional experience with the Houston Dash (NWSL) in 2021 and a standout season with the Utah Royals FC Reserves in 2019. She was a team captain and three-year starter at Utah State, earning Second Team All-Mountain West honors in 2019. Marshall appeared in 55 matches for the Aggies, leading the team in minutes played and anchoring both the midfield and back line.
A native of Syracuse, Utah, Marshall earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Utah State in 2020 and completed her master’s in Sports Administration in 2022. She is currently pursuing her UEFA B License abroad in Summer 2025, expanding her international coaching perspective and deepening her commitment to developing players at the highest level.
