After graduating in 2020, Keith Smith remained with the Pepperdine men’s basketball team for the 2020-21 season as a graduate manager while he worked on a master’s degree in dispute resolution.
After being limited to 15 games during the 2019-20 campaign due to injury, Smith took a medical retirement at the conclusion of the season. He graduated with a degree in intercultural communication.
Smith averaged 1.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in 12.5 minutes in his only season suiting up for the Waves. He sat out the 2018-19 season per NCAA rules after transferring from Oregon.
Smith played two seasons for the Ducks, appearing in a total of 62 games. He was part of the 2017 squad that reached the Final Four and won a share of the Pac-12 regular-season title.
Smith, who is from Seattle, Wash., and attended Rainier Beach High School, grew up attending Lorenzo Romar’s camps at the University of Washington. His father, also named Keith, played in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks and in college at Loyola Marymount, where he was inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.
