Pepperdine men’s basketball head coach Ed Schilling announced the addition of assistant coach and recruiting powerhouse Joshua Calbert in September 2024. He enters his second season with the Waves in 2025-26.

In his first season in Malibu in 2024-25, Calbert helped lead the Waves to their first WCC Semifinal appearance in four seasons as Pepperdine won three consecutive games in the tournament, knocking off Portland, Oregon State and Santa Clara in consecutive days.

“Josh Calbert is well known on the west coast for his tremendous work ethic,” Schilling said. “Personally, I appreciate Coach Calbert’s commitment to building quality relationships with players, parents and coaches. I believe he will be a tremendous asset to our basketball program.”

Most recently, Calbert was the coordinator of player development at Arkansas-Little Rock, assisting in scouting and skill development for the Trojans during the 2023-24 season. Prior to Little Rock, he held director of recruiting titles at South Dakota (22-23) and Northern Illinois (21-22) after directing and coaching the West Coast Elite NorCal Walnut Creek AAU squad for six years.

Calbert’s individual training and coaching resume also includes training two McDonald's All-Americans, five NBA draft selections and over 50 NCAA Division I players.

“Josh Calbert is one of the most connected young coaches in college basketball,” director and founder of West Coast Elite Ryan Silver said. “He is a fantastic recruiter connected throughout the western United States. He’s a great hire for Coach Schilling who is doing an amazing job rebuilding the Pepperdine program.”
