Joe Gordon spent four seasons (2018-21) as a volunteer assistant coach with the Pepperdine baseball program.
In Gordon's first year with the program he helped the Waves to their 25th WCC championship.
Prior to joining the Waves’ staff, Gordon served eight seasons as the infield and hitting coach at Cal State L.A. in the CCAA. In 2013 Gordon helped the Golden Eagles capture their first-ever CCAA Tournament title and reach the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2007. Cal State L.A. posted an overall record of 35-22 and had a 28-12 mark in conference play.
He also helped the Golden Eagles to a successful 2015 season when Cal State L.A. won 12 more games than it did in 2014 and was one of the most improved teams in NCAA Division II. Cal State L.A. finished with a 28-20 overall record and a 23-17 mark in the CCAA and the team’s batting average rose from .262 to .298 as the Golden Eagles scored 59 more runs than in 2014.
Prior to joining the Cal State L.A. staff, Gordon was the head coach at Simi Valley High School from 1998-2003 where he developed many future college and professional players, including Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Bryan Anderson of the Cardinals, A’s and White Sox.
Gordon was an All-state and All-CIF player at Simi Valley High School where he still holds batting records. Gordon also played college baseball at UCLA, before transferring to Cal Lutheran University, where he helped the team reach the NCAA Division III World Series. Additionally, Gordon went on to play three years of professional baseball in the Prairie and Northern Leagues.
Gordon earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from George Fox University and his master’s in curriculum and instruction from Cal Lutheran University.
He currently resides in Moorpark with his wife Julie, daughter Pressley and sons, Gunner and Bronx.
