Women's Volleyball's Laine Briggs Garners WCC Defensive Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - It's inevitable! For the third time in her career, and second time this season, defensive specialist Laine Briggs has been named Defensive Player of the Week. The West Coast Conference made the announcement Monday afternoon.
Briggs was stout over the Waves' two matches this past weekend, totaling 31 digs, 10 assists, and three service aces to help Pepperdine defeat UC Santa Barbara 3-1 and upset no. 19 USC 3-0.
The Costa Mesa, California native currently ranks second in the WCC with 194 digs, only trailing Denver's Madison Winkler, who has 227. Briggs also ranks 19th in the conference in assists with 47. Pepperdine has found success when Laine has the ball in her hands, recording 15 service aces, 10th-most among WCC qualifiers.
Pepperdine's next home match is Thursday, October 1 against Pacific.

The Waves are on a roll, winning four consecutive matches, a season-best. During the current win streak, Pepperdine has won 12 sets while dropping only a pair. The blue and orange are back on the hardwood later this week in the Bay Area as they open WCC play at Santa Clara (Thursday, 7 pm Pacific) and San Francisco (Saturday, noon Pacific).
