Women’s Soccer Drops Road Match to San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif . – Pepperdine women's soccer (4-3-2) lost to San Diego State (5-2-1) 0-2 on the road Thursday night.
"It was a tough night for the Waves but we played a really good San Diego State team," Head coach Tim Ward said. "We're just going to take it on the chin and I know we will get better from this. Onto the next."
In a defense-heavy half, the Waves were forced on their heels early in the match. The first shot of the half in the ninth minute found the back of the net for the Aztecs, putting the Waves down 0-1 early.
Outshot 5-2 in the opening 45 minutes, Alex Pendleton and Ava Schall registered shots for Pepperdine as the visitors trailed 0-1 at the break.
Nearly identical to the start of the match, San Diego State came out of the break fast, doubling their lead in the 51st minute off the foot of Cayden Chowana-Bandhu. Even with the ramped intensity as the Waves more than doubled their shots from the first half with five, one was not able to find its way across the goal line. For just the second time this season, the Waves were not able to score in the 0-2 final, resulting in Pepperdine finishing non-conference 4-3-2.
Jillian Medvecky registered five saves on the night.
Opening West Coast Conference play on the road, the Waves travel to Portland Wednesday to take on the Pilots. The match, scheduled to kickoff at 3 p.m., will be streamed on ESPN+ (subscription required) with live stats available at www.pepperdinewaves.com.
