SEATTLE, Wash. – Pepperdine women's basketball (19-11, 10-8 WCC) closed out the regular season with a win against the Seattle Redhawks (5-24, 1-17 WCC) Saturday afternoon in Redhawk Arena.
"Sometimes it's not pretty but we took care of business on the road to wrap up conference play," head coach
Katie Faulkner said. "Excited for the opportunity to play in March!"
Starting out slow, the Waves were outscored in the first quarter, forced to work from behind early.
Lina Falk led the team with six, hitting two from deep in the opening ten minutes on her way to tie her career-high of 25 points. After one, Pepperdine trailed 23-15.
Flipping the script in the second quarter, Pepperdine outscored Seattle 23-14 in the latter 10 minutes of the half. Falk doubled her total output with another six, joined by
Elli Guiney who also scored six. A 9-3 run down the stretch from Pepperdine tied the game at 35-all and a quick Redhawk layup was matched with a buzzer-beater three from
Taija Sta. Maria gave the Waves a one-point advantage, heading into the locker room up 38-37.
Continuing the offensive groove, Pepperdine separated from Seattle in the third. Eight straight from Falk aided the 13-2 run in the middle of the quarter, capped off by a triple from Guiney to give Pepperdine their first double-digit lead of the game. Three different Waves scored the final three baskets for Pepperdine as
Ivory Finley,
Bella Green, and
Seleh Harmon all contributed to the 15-point cushion over the home team headed to the fourth, up 64-49.
Narrowly outscored in the fourth 18-17, Pepperdine spread the scoring with nine of the 11 active Waves on the roster netting at least one point.
