SAN BRUNO, Calif. - After an impressive showing on the road this past weekend, Mariia Nikol Dvornikova was named Freshman of the Week, as announced by the West Coast Conference on Monday afternoon.
It's Dvonikova's second Freshman of the Week honor, and the Waves' ninth weekly award as a team.
Dvornikova helped Pepperdine sweep Seattle 3-0 and take down Portland 3-1 over the weekend. She compiled 16 kills against the Pilots on Saturday, the most she's tallied in a match this season. Her .320 hitting percentage at Seattle and .308 hitting percentage at Portland marked the second time this campaign she's tallied two straight matches recording an above-.300 hitting percentage (last done Oct. 8 at Denver (.323) and Oct. 10 (.379) at San Diego).
As the calendar flipped to November, Pepperdine is slated for its final two regular season road matches later this week, visiting Saint Mary's (Thursday, 6:30 pm) before battling Pacific (Saturday, 12 pm). Saint Mary's sits just one game back of Pepperdine and LMU for the top spot in the conference. The Gaels defeated the Waves 3-1 in the season's first meeting on October 3 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
Fans can also look ahead to a huge match at Firestone Fieldhouse scheduled for next week Thursday, November 12 against San Diego, who is only two games back of Pepperdine in the standings. Tickets start as low as 18 dollars. The contest will also air nationally on ESPNU.
