MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine men's tennis is ready to host the ITA Southwest Regional Championships this weekend, with the tournament beginning tomorrow and lasting through next Tuesday, October 20.
Â
A total of 14 schools will compete, including Pepperdine, UC Santa Barbara, California-Riverside, LMU, San Diego, UC San Diego, Hawaii, UC Irvine, Cal Poly, San Diego State, UCLA, Arizona, USC, and Arizona State.
Â
Will Steinberg will begin things for the Waves in the qualifying round of 64 singles at 11:30am. In the main draw singles, Photos Photiades will battle Arizona State's Simon Caldwell, while Aleksa Pisaric goes against the Devils' Niels Villard. David Fix, Lasse Poertner (2026 WCC Singles All-Conference honor), and Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida already have spots in the main singles with an opponent to be determined. Poertner is slotted at no. 69 in the ITA singles rankings, while Pisaric is ranked 72nd and Almeida 107th.
The Waves will send out a trio of teams on Saturday morning's doubles round of 64, including top-seeded Pisaric and Poertner, Fix and Almeida, and Photiades and Hugh Winter. Pisaric and Poertner proved to be an effective doubles duo last year, going 8-6 overall while tallying one of Pepperdine's four wins against a nationally-ranked doubles team. The combinations of Fix/Almeida and Photiades/Hugh Winter did not record any stats in the 2025-26 campaign. Respectively, those three Pepperdine doubles teams currently rank 19th, 23rd, and 26th in the ITA doubles rankings.
All doubles and singles draws and results can be found here.
