MALIBU, Calif. – Today Pepperdine Swim & Dive picked up a win over rival program, San Diego, to the tune of a 945–817 score. The Waves' first win over the Toreros since 2021 came by virtue of taking first in thirteen of nineteen events. Three of the baker's dozen of victories set all-time program records.
"It's really hard to put today in perspective. This group, time and time again, just gets it done," said interim head coach Dan Marella. "We had three school records today, and a number of lifetime bests coming off some really tough practices and lifts. Looking forward to pushing the envelope even further over the next couple of weeks before we start to come down for championships."
Jackie Johnson earned gold in both the one and 3-meter dive events to give the Waves a sweep on the boards this afternoon. The freshman, who is already the 3-meter program record holder (289.90 on Oct. 3), has now claimed the best-ever score in the 1-meter (271.20) as well. In addition to the history she set today, her winning result in the 3-meter was 270.45.
Maile Sullivan was the next first-year to break a record. Her winning time of 50.88 in the 100 free gave her the top spot in the record book. She saw a heap of success in the freestyle stroke today. Individually she won the 50 free (23.73), and did the same in the 200 (1:34.43) and 400 free relay (3:26.82). Sullivan led off both groups, with Paige Easton, Kylie Taylor, and Anna Ryan joining her in the 200-yarder. The 400-yarder team was composed of Aliyah Fan, Paige Easton, and again Anna Ryan anchoring.
On her own, Anna Ryan won the 100 breast at 1:04.21.
The third record to fall today was in the 400 IM. Ansley Halbach swam to both a time of 4:27.03 and silver. The previous mark stood at 4:27.11, set by Emily Morton in 2020.
Nora Rabe claimed victories in two events. She took the 200 breast at a hair under 2:20 (2:19.99), then the 200 IM at 2:07.38.
The Waves swept the fly events. Aliyah Fan claimed the 100 fly (55.17) with Mollie Cho taking the 200 fly (2:04.85).
Both winning medley relays were nearly the same group of four. The 400 medley relay saw Kylie Taylor, Ava Taylor, Aliyah Fan, and Maile Sullivan take gold at 3:45.62. The 200-yarder's only lineup change was Maile Sullivan anchoring (1:43.31).
