No. 23 Men's Tennis Hosts Florida Atlantic to Begin Spring Season

MALIBU, Calif. — No. 23 Pepperdine men's tennis will open the spring dual match season Sunday against Florida Atlantic (1-1), with match time set for noon from Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.

Pepperdine enters the new season with a national ranking of No. 23, making the Waves the second-highest ranked mid-major program in the country behind No. 10 Columbia.

The Waves were selected to finish second in the Preseason WCC Poll, with four Waves being named to the All-WCC Preseason Team. Maxi Homberg, Edward Winter, Lasse Poertner and Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida each received the preseason laurels from the West Coast Conference.

Individually, the Waves enter with three ranked inside the top-100 in the ITA singles rankings, with a pair of doubles pairings in the top-60. Aleksa Pisaric begins the season as the No. 61 ranked singles player in the country, with Photos Photiades at No. 81 and Edward Winter at No. 88. In the doubles rankings, Ribeiro de Almeida and David Fix are currently tabbed at No. 51 with Poertner and Pisaric coming in at No. 53.

Edward Winter is coming off a successful fall which saw him qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships in November, with the junior more recently competing in the qualifying draw at the Australian Open. Winter and Maxi Homberg were each All-WCC First Team selections in singles in 2025 while Poertner tabbed second team honors. Edward and Hugh Winter also return after receiving First Team All-WCC doubles honors in 2025.

Florida Atlantic enters coming off a 6-1 defeat at UC Santa Barbara Saturday, after defeating North Florida 5-2. The Owls are coming off a 11-9 campaign in 2025, eventually falling to No. 48 Memphis in the AAC semifinals.

The Waves and Owls have faced off just once before, with Pepperdine earning a 5-1 victory on Mar. 26, 2016 in Tampa, Fla.

The Waves are coming off a 2025 campaign which saw a 17-11 overall mark while advancing into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five years.

Following the season opener, the Waves will head to Tucson, Arizona for ITA Kickoff Weekend, matching up with No. 22 Florida State on Saturday (Jan. 24) with either No. 11 Arizona or LSU on the docket for Sunday (Jan. 25).

Pepperdine men's tennis has a longstanding tradition of success, highlighted by an NCAA Championship in 2006 which came 54 years after its first NAIA Championship in 1952. Robbie Weiss recorded the program's first NCAA singles championship in 1988 after the program saw doubles national championships in 1984 and 1985. 44-time WCC Champions, Pepperdine has reached 40 NCAA Tournaments and six NCAA Regionals in its history with 53 total All-Americans.
