TUCSON, Ariz. – Pepperdine women's soccer (3-3-1), who received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, scored three goals against Arizona (4-3) Sunday morning in the shutout win.
 
"That is a really good Arizona team," Head coach Tim Ward said. "We challenged the girls before the game and it was a little tighter than the scoreline would indicate, but really pleased because this is not an easy place to come."
 
Dominating possession most of the first half, Pepperdine spent the first 25 minutes looking to capitalize on the looks they were getting.
 
Breaking through in the 31st minute, Julia Quinonez scored her second of the season to give the Waves the lead. The assist was credited to Tabitha LaParl, who now has four through seven games. 
 
Headed to the half with a one goal advantage, Pepperdine was hungry for more. With more defense needed in the second half, chances at goal became scarce. Just three shots on goal in the latter 45 minutes meant opportunities had to be of quality.
 
For her first goal of her collegiate career, Alex Pendleton knocked the second goal of the match for the Waves in the 85th minute, courtesy of Tatum Wynalda.
 
Just over two minutes later, Kyra Murphy scored her second goal of the season, and her first since the season opener at TCU. Assisted by Quinonez, the junior led the squad with three points of the afternoon.
 
Next up, Pepperdine closes out nonconference play Thursday against San Diego State in Malibu. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and as the mental health game, green rally towels will be given to the first 100 fans in attendance.
