MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women's soccer (0-1-1), who received votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, tied the Rainbow Wahine of Hawai'i (0-1-1) Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.

Megan Edelman and
Tatum Wynalda scored in the first half for the Waves before Hawaii came back in the final twenty minutes to pull out a tie.Â

Scoring first, the Waves jumped in front fast. Edelman found the back of the net in the 15th minute with help from
Ariana Markey, her first collegiate assist, and
Tabitha LaParl.

Wynalda followed suit just four minutes later in the 19th minute unassisted to give Pepperdine a 2-0 lead at the break. Defensively, the Waves held the Rainbow Wahine without a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.Â

With 20 minutes left in the match, Hawai'i found the back of the net twice, both on corner kicks.

Time ran out as the match ended with a final score of 2-2.

In the starting 11, Markey and
Sarah Spears made the first starts of their collegiate careers for the Waves.

Offensively, Hawai'i put more shots up with 14 compared to Pepperdine's 13. The Rainbow Wahine also barely took the edge with shots on goal, securing eight compared to the Waves' seven.

In goal,
Jillian Medvecky notched six saves, a season-high after netting five at No. 9 TCU. Hawaii made five saves, taking the advantage on corner kicks with six compared to Pepperdine's two.
