STOCKTON, Calif. — The No. 28 Pepperdine women's tennis team got back on track in West Coast Conference play with a 4-0 road sweep of the Pacific Tigers on Friday afternoon.
The Waves (11-11, 4-1 West Coast Conference) won their first match against the Tigers (5-15, 0-7 WCC) in two years with relative ease: first by surrendering just three games in doubles play and then with straight-set wins from Vivian Yang, Sebastianna Scilipoti and Liam Oved to seal the deal. With Pepperdine's win and San Diego's loss against Washington State earlier on Friday, the Waves have a shot at splitting the regular-season title with a win over Saint Mary's tomorrow.
Pepperdine dropped just one game in the doubles matches it won to clinch the doubles point. The top team of Anastasiia Grechkina and Alexia Harmon won 6-1, then the pairing of Duru Söke and Yang blanked their opponents 6-0 to win the doubles point.
In singles play, the Waves were relentless and won all six first sets. Playing at the top spot in the lineup, Yang beat Megan Carmichael 6-0, 6-2 for her tenth dual match victory. Scilipoti won her second-straight match and her second in league play by beating Alexis Sam 6-3, 6-2 on court four. Further down the lineup, Oved gave up just one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win over Nahreen Cheam, which extended her win streak to three matches.
When the match ended, the Waves were up in all three remaining matches.
