PLAY-BY-PLAY
Throughout the first set, the Waves and Cardinal went point-for-point until three kills in a row from
Ryan Barnett allowed Pepperdine to push ahead. Although Stanford was able to put up two more kills than Pepperdine, the Waves' efficiency in serving would allow an opportunity to take the set.
Ryan Barnett accounted for seven of the Waves' 12 kills, also assisting on a block with
James Eadie, who posted three kills on four swings and had three blocks of his own. Ultimately, a kill from Eadie would end set one in favor of the Waves, 25-22.
During the second set, Stanford went on a 3-0 run late in the close-set that would allow the Cardinal to take control at 20-11. Errors plagued both squads as Pepperdine was only able to average a .042 hitting percentage after six attacking and serving errors.
Cole Hartke and Barnett added three kills apiece, but the Cardinal's 11 kills would allow the opposition to take set two, 25-18.
In the third set, Hartke's efficiency on attack would propel the Waves to a substantial lead. Pepperdine was able to get ahead by seven points at 19-12, after Barnett's four kills and two blocks from
Ethan Watson and Hartke. Service errors stalled Stanford, allowing Pepperdine to take set three, 25-20.
The Waves were the most efficient in set four, totaling 17 kills on a .667 offensive clip, three blocks, and a service ace from
Brendan Read. Barnett added another five kills that could not be received, while Hartke had four while also assisting on three blocks. Eadie went a perfect three for three on attacking, also adding two blocks. Pepperdine's success stumped Stanford, who was only able to secure 12 kills on a .286 success rate, allowing the Waves to take set four, 25-16, and the match, 3-1.
