SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The No. 28 Pepperdine women's tennis team got back in the win column with a 5-2 victory over No. 51 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon.
After winning the doubles point, the Waves (6-8) won four of the six singles matches to pick up the win over the Gauchos (4-8). Later this season, Pepperdine will go for the season sweep over UCSB at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on April 10.
In doubles, Pepperdine got two fast wins from courts two and three. No. 81 Anastasiia Grechkina and Alexia Harmon beat Lucy Lu and Lily Pradkin 6-2, then Duru Söke and Sebastianna Scilipoti clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court three.
Pepperdine went on to win four of the six first sets in singles action en route to clinching the match with three straight-set wins.
Scilipoti wrapped up her match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Emma Tutoveanu on court five, then Harmon beat Ali Benedetto 6-2, 6-1 on court four to put the Waves up 3-0. Senior No. 13 Savannah Broadus wound up clinching the match for the Waves with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Anna Weissheim at the second position.
With the match in hand, the remaining singles matches were played out. The Gauchos put up two points on the board with wins on courts one and six, then No. 102 Vivian Yang wrapped up the afternoon with her 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) win over Tyra Richardson.
The Waves host #33 Oklahoma State on Sunday, March 16. First serve is at 2 p.m.
