MALIBU, Calif. –
Jeneath Wong of the Pepperdine women's golf team won the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) with an 18-under 266 this past weekend in Vietnam.
"We are very proud of Jeneath's impressive win in Vietnam," head coach
Laurie Gibbs said. "She was the leader for the final 36 holes against a very strong field and played great under immense pressure. Jeneath has worked hard on all parts of her game that is allowing her to better control the ball throughout the golf course. She did a great job sticking to her game plan and playing to her strengths to close out the win."
Not only did Wong (Melbourne, Australia) claim the title, but she set a new WAAP championship record low score with her 266 (65-69-64-68), breaking the previous record of 270.
"I am very happy with how I played over 72 holes at the WAAP in keeping my composure and being patient," Wong said. "I came into the tournament with confidence after shooting 68 in the final round of the Bruin Wave at Valencia. Winning gives me exemptions into some amazing tournaments around the world this summer that I will be honored to play in. I am very excited to be returning to the Augusta National Women's Amateur in three weeks."
The two-time All-American held the lead at 8-under after the first two days before firing off a stellar 7-under 64 in the third round to cement herself as the leader heading into the fourth and final round. She then carded a 3-under 68 in the last round to win the championship and become the first Malaysian winner in tournament history. In total, Wong made 24 birdies during her four rounds in Vietnam.
With her win, Wong qualified for the Augusta National Women's Amateur and these prestigious professional tournaments in 2025: the Women's British, the Chevron Championship, the AIG Women's Open, the Evian Championship, the ISPS Australia Open and the Hana Financial Group.
Also representing the Waves at the WAAP, freshman
Eunseo Choi - who joined Pepperdine in January - finished
tied for 13th with an 8-under 276 (67-71-67-71). Choi parred all 18 holes in the final round.
Additionally, 2024 graduate
Lion Higo finished
tied for 17th with a 7-under 277 (65-72-74-66). Higo tallied the lowest combined first and fourth round score.
Looking ahead, the 2026 WAAP will be held February 12-15 in New Zealand at Royal Wellington, and the Waves will be represented by Wong, Choi and possibly other players.
