Men's Basketball Loses Steam at LMU

LOS ANGELES – Led by a Moe Odum career-high, the Pepperdine men's basketball team stayed close with LMU Saturday evening but ran out of gas in the second half for a 93-82 final.

BIG WAVES
  • Moe Odum (Bronx, N.Y./Pacific) led the Waves with a career-high 26 points on 11-of-16 field goal shooting while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.
  • Dovydas Butka (Panevezys, Lithuania) earned a 25-point (season high), 11-rebound double-double and gathered two blocks and two steals.
  • Stefan Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia/SMU/USF) added on 18 points, two boards and a steal.

KEY STATS
  • LMU outshot the Waves 53-48% from the field and 46-35% from beyond the arc.
  • Pepperdine led in second chance points (19-10) but the Lions pulled down more boards (36-29).

RECAP
Dovydas Butka and Moe Odum got Pepperdine going out of the gates before Alex Leiba, Butka and Stefan Todorovic helped the Waves set off on a quick 7-0 run. The teams traded buckets until the eight-minute mark when LMU hit a jumper and two dunks to pull ahead by two. The Lions enjoyed the slight lead for the rest of the half but Pepperdine entered the break down by only a single point at half, 37-36.

LMU opened the second stanza with a three and the Waves answered with a Butka post move and a Todorovic three to go ahead in the first minutes. Odum scored the next five points for Pepperdine and the score flirted back and forth but the Lions put together a 13-6 run that extended their lead to 11 with just over 10 minutes to play. LMU's advantage ballooned to 18 minutes later but the Waves clawed back to within eight after a Zion Bethea three at the two-minute mark. The Lions stiff-armed Pepperdine at the free throw line however, leading to an 82-93 final.
