PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves and Knights kept the match close in the first set, with it being the only set with a tied score and lead change. FDU was able to secure 11 kills, compared to Pepperdine's nine, but the Waves' higher hitting percentage and minimal errors would take charge.
Ryan Barnett and
Matt Mazur contributed three kills apiece, while Barnett also added two service aces. The Waves' three service aces and a denial at the net sealed set one, 25-20.
During set two, Pepperdine kept FDU to only eight points, two coming from Waves service errors. Mazur led the attack, tallying six kills on seven attempts, and also assisting on a rejection at the net. The Knights were kept to a -.238 hitting percentage, unable to block a single Waves attack.
Gabe Dyer assisted on nine of Pepperdine's 11 kills and added two digs to take set two, 25-8.
Throughout set three, the Waves kept the Knights to a .080 success rate, while service errors plagued FDU. Mazur tabbed another five kills on twice as many attempts, while
Ethan Watson served four rejections at the net. Service errors from each of the Dyer brothers would create a lead the Knights would be unable to come back from, taking set three 25-19 and the match 3-0.
