Anastasiia Grechkina Knocks Off No. 9 Anastasiia Lopata to Open NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. — Pepperdine women's tennis sophomore No. 37 Anastasiia Grechkina earned a victory over Georgia's No. 9 Anastasiia Lopata in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship from the USTA National Campus Tuesday afternoon.

Grechkina earned the win in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) to advance into the round of 32. It marked her seventh ranked victory this fall while improving to 17-2 since the start of the 2025-26 season.

The first set saw Grechkina get the first break in the third game to go ahead 3-1. She would not be broken for the remainder of the set, claiming it by a 6-3 mark.

The second set saw the two each broken consecutively in the third and fourth games, with Lopata then holding serve to go up 3-2. Grechkina then faced four straight break points after falling behind 0-40 in the next game, fighting back to hold and even the set. Lopata eventually got her break while holding throughout to win the second set, 7-5.

Grechkina faced an early deuce point on serve in the third set, winning the pivotal point which evened it up at 1-1. That was the most trouble she faced on serve for the remainder of the match, getting a break to pull ahead and win the third set, 6-3.

Grechkina will match up with Auburn's Ava Esposito in the round of 32 tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. ET, as Esposito earned a third set tiebreak win over USC's Krisha Mahendran in their fixture today.
