The Aztecs have completed a pair of meets prior to their upcoming duel against the Waves. They defeated cross-town rival San Diego on two separate occasions in September.
Pepperdine faced San Diego State twice last season—in which the Aztecs were both victorious. The blue and orange last defeated their fellow southern California school during the 1998-99 season (166-130). The two programs have a rich history of competition, which spans 31 total meetings and began in 1994.
For those unable to attend, the meet will be streamed on Overnght, with results available on the Meet Mobile app with a subscription.
Last weekend the Waves posted 358 points and nine first-place finishes en route to their victory at the annual Rodionoff Invite.
Among many highlights was Jackie Johnson's history-making performance in her school debut. Her 289.90 points set a new Pepperdine 3-meter diving record and earned her gold.
The other diving event was also won by a Wave. Ava Langheim posted 246.15 points to take the 1-meter.
Charli Sunahara and Layla Busquets both placed first in 100-yard events. Sunahara won the breast (1:06.59) and Busquets the fly (57.06).
Freshman Sophia Blietz showed out in her first Pepperdine meet, earning a pair of golds through her times in the 200 back (2:04.65) and 200 fly (2:08.83).
Kiana Fan's win in the 200 breast (2:22.99) and Ava Taylor's victory in the 200 IM rounded out the individual champs (2:11.03).
The relay teams found success too. Layla Busquets, Charli Sunahara, Sophia Ware, and Anna Ryan raced to a time of 1:45.86 to bring the 200 medley relay home for the Waves.
The Waves next event will see select swimmers compete in the MPSF Open Water Swimming Championship in Long Beach, Calif. (Oct. 18).
