Waves Win the Rodionoff Invite in Season Opener

MALIBU, Calif. – With nine event victories across two days, the Pepperdine Swim and Dive team started their season off with a home win in the Rodionoff Invite. In addition to celebrating a successful meet, the Waves honored Coach Rodionoff's legacy and team alumni over the weekend.

DIVE RECAP

The Waves occupied every spot on the podium in the 1-meter. Leading the way was Ava Langheim, who made her first appearance since an injury that kept her sidelined for the entirety of her junior season. She picked up where her productive sophomore year left off—earning 246.15 points and first in the event.

Jackie Johnson placed second with her score of 243.65. Amanda Wong rounded out the bunch to take bronze (236.05).

SWIM RECAP

The Waves started the meet with a victory. Layla Busquets, Charli Sunahara, Sophia Ware, Anna Ryan swam to first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.86) in the swim team's first event of the day.

Busquets earned a gold on her own, too. She won the 100 fly in 57.06 seconds (eighth all-time in program history), and later added a second-place finish in the 100 back(58.13). Teammate Natalie Do took second in the 100 fly (57.99).

The 200 breast saw a trio of Waves finish on top. Kiana Fan (2:22.99—tenth all-time), Charli Sunahara (2:24.23), and Nora Rabe (2:24.76) added a combined 22 points to the standings.

Today the blue and orange showed their talent in the freestyle events. Aliyah Fan was just .29 seconds away from first in the 200-yarder (1:53.64). In the 500-yarder Emma Guglielmello earned second (5:08.48—tenth all-time). And with a combined effort from Aliyah Fan, Layla Busquets, Elliot Easton, and Anna Ryan, the 400-yard relay team took silver (3:34.00).

Ansley Halbach placed in her first event of the year, with a runner-up performance in the 400-yard IM (4:35.80).
