Swim Dominates in Dual Meet Against Seattle

MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine Swim completed its first ever meet against Seattle University in a commanding win. The Waves posted 14 victories over a two day span en route to a 259 to 75 victory.

"The Waves had a phenomenal weekend up here in Seattle" said head coach Ellie Monobe. "Aliyah Fan won just about everything and shoutout to Sophia Blietz for setting the tone early and pushing herself. We had some stellar performances and are excited to see how we stack up in the conference. Maile Sullivan, a freshman, is really stepping up into her role on the relay teams as an anchor. The coaching staff is incredibly pleased with the team for their display this weekend and we believe that we are in the best position heading into the mid-season championship."

SWIM RECAP

Of the team's 14 first-place finishes, freshman Aliyah Fan contributed to six. Her most impressive individual victory may have come in the 100 fly. She raced to a time of 56.01—the second fastest by a Wave ever. The records she set did not stop there. She won the 100 free at 52.15 (ninth all-time for the program) and the 200-yarder as well at 1:53.73 (tenth all-time).

In the relays she kicked-off the 400 free in the first position. She was followed by Layla Busquets, Anna Ryan, and Maile Sullivan who swam to a winning time of 3:29.64.

Fan also manned the third position with the help of Layla Busquets, Charli Sunahara, and Anna Ryan to take the 200 medley relay (1:44.20).

She also swam from the third position for the winning 400 medley relay team. Kylie Taylor took the lead while Charli and Anna rounded out the lineup (3:47.27).

Taylor had her own personal victories, too. The senior out of Eugene won the 100 back at 56.23 (third all-time)

The Waves' good fortune did not stop there. Emma Guglielmello showed her prowess in the distance events. She was victorious in the 500 (5:03.53) and 1000 free (10:29.09). These are ninth and fourth all-time respectively.

In addition to Aliyah Fan, another Pepperdine newcomer saw success in Seattle—Sophia Blietz. In a display of versatility, the freshman took the top spot on the podium in the 200 back (2:02.17) and 200 fly (2:06.01). Her times are respectively the fourth and third best all-time for the Waves.

Pepperdine earned a sweep in the IM events. Ansley Halbach took the 400 IM at 4:33.85 (tenth all-time), Charli Sunahara finished first in the 200 IM (2:08.00), and Kiana Fan won the 100-yarder at 59.21 (seventh all-time) to give the blue and orange a sweep in the event.
