VAIL, Colo. – After another successful day at the Red Sky Golf Club, the Pepperdine women's golf team rounded out the Golfweek Red Sky Classic with an 856 (284-291-281) to tie for second-place.
"Great start to the season for Lauren with a win and second place finish," said head coach Laurie Gibbs. "Everyone is playing well with a third and second-place finish for the team. We are looking forward to playing in two top collegiate tournaments at Medinah Country Club in Illinois and Stanford Golf Course to complete our Fall season."
Two Waves finished in the top-six, led for the second-consecutive tournament by Lauren Gomez who finished in second-place with a 9-under 207 (70-70-67). She shot under par in each round for the second-straight tournament as well, as she won the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational earlier this month. With the addition of these three below-par rounds, she is currently tied for fifth in the program record books with 31 career below-par rounds. The program record stands at 38 below-par rounds, set by Pepperdine great Katherine Hull from 2000-03.
Gomez's 9-under also tied for eighth in the records for lowest 54-hole score and she has now begun her senior campaign with a first and second-place tournament respectively in the team's two tournaments played. Jeneath Wong also had a solid week, finishing in sixth-place for her ninth top-10 career finish and 16th top-20 finish. In just the beginning of her third season, Wong is already tied for 10th in the record books with 21 below-par rounds as well.
The tournament's individual winner came from Eastern Michigan, as Savannah de Bock shot a 12-under 204 to earn the top-spot. Kansas took home the team hardware with a 15-under 849 collectively, while Boise State tied for second alongside the Waves. Sacramento State was six-strokes behind for fourth, while Denver rounded out the top-five 11-shots back from Pepperdine.
