The #19 Pepperdine women's soccer team cemented an unbeaten record over Ivy League opponents this season, beating Cornell 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Waves (6-2-2) wasted no time, scoring in the first minute to lead almost the entire 90 minutes. Being outshot 18-8, Cornell (1-4-4) could not find an offensive response and for the first time this season, Pepperdine put up back-to-back clean sheets.
For her second goal of the season, graduate Megan Edelman (Danville, Calif.) copied her first, blasting the ball from the right side of the field outside the 18 to the left side of the goal with just 25 seconds gone from the clock. Edelman has the fastest goal all season, taking the title from graduate Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif.) who scored just under two minutes into a game earlier this season.
Taking the second corner kick of the first half, redshirt junior Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif.) perfectly placed the ball on frame and a fumble by the Cornell keeper resulted in the ball dropping into the goal for Pepperdine's second of the match.
The latter 45 minutes were just as offensively aggressive as the first for the Waves with 18 total shots being split evenly for nine a half. With the help of freshman Elle Quinn (Folsom, Calif.) redshirt sophomore Kyra Murphy (Riverside, Calif.) notched consecutive games with a goal. Left alone in the box with a nicely threaded ball from Quinn, Murphy had plenty of space to send the ball into the left-hand side of the goal for the Waves third goal of the afternoon.
#19 Pepperdine won with a final score of 3-0.
