The Pepperdine women's soccer team tied Arizona 1-1 for the first draw of the season Thursday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.
The Waves (2-2-1) dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Wildcats (3-1-1) 6-to-1 with a 5-to-2 advantage on corner kicks. However, Arizona took control in the final 45, accounting for eight of the 10 shots.
Pepperdine struck first in the 30th minute. For her first goal of the season and since 2022, redshirt junior Tabitha LaParl (Lakewood, Calif.) knocked one in off her left foot into the left side of the net. Sophomore Julia Quinonez (Torrance, Calif.) assisted the goal for her second assist on the year.
Arizona relied on substitutions heavily, giving significant minutes to a number of the 11 subs who made an appearance. The Wildcats found the equalizer in the 60th minute off the foot of Nyota Katembo, assisted by Narissa Fults, who had four of the team's nine shots in the game.
Neither team was able to break through in the final 30 minutes of play, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
