The Pepperdine women's soccer team dropped the home opener to USC 3-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Waves (2-2) jumped ahead early with a goal in the 2nd minute of the match, but couldn't hold off the Trojans (2-0-1) in the second half. USC would find the back of the net twice and Pepperdine would score an own goal to cement a 3-1 loss to open play at Tari Frahm Rokus Field for the season.
In one of the fastest goals in Waves history, graduate Tori Waldeck (Newhall, Calif.) notched one in the left hand side of the goal in just the second minute of the match off an assist from sophomore Julia Quinonez (Torrance, Calif.). This is Waldeck's second goal of the season and 30th of her career.
Taking a lead into the half, Pepperdine was looking to defend in the latter 45 minutes of the game. The Trojans would tie it up as two of their in the 52nd minute before taking the lead nine minutes later with a goal in the 61st minute.
With 14 minutes to find an equalizer, Pepperdine conceded an own goal.
The Waves fell 3-1 in the 2024 home opener.

2' : A left-footed strike from Waldeck off a pass from Quinonez in the box would find the left-half of the goal for the graduate's second goal of the season.
52' : Trojan freshman Faith George found the equalizer with an assist from Ines Derrien off her right foot into the left-hand side of the net.
61' : A cross from the right side of the field curved its way into the goal off the foot of Hannah Griffin.
76' : Pepperdine conceded an own goal when a deflection off a Trojan cross went into the net.
