PARIS, France — Former Pepperdine men's water polo Head Coach, three-time All-American and National Champion
Jack Kocur helped the U.S. men's water polo team to an Olympic bronze medal with a win over Hungary this morning.
Kocur served as a video scout in his third time at the Olympics with the men's water polo team. He was previously a video scout at the 2012 Olympic Games and was an assistant coach at the 2016 Olympics. This is his first time assisting a medal-winning team.
In Paris, the U.S. men's team fell to Italy and Greece while defeating Romania, Montenegro and Croatia in group play to earn a spot in the Quarterfinals and a matchup with Australia.
In a tightly contested game, the U.S. ultimately defeated Australia in a penalty shootout to advance to the semifinals. Serbia would win the semifinal matchup, but the U.S. then bounced back and ended their Olympic run with a win over Hungary to take home the bronze medal.
Pepperdine's all-time medal count is now 23: nine gold, eight silver and six bronze. Pepperdine women's soccer alumna
Lynn Williams won gold with the U.S. women's soccer team on Saturday. If coaches did receive medals, however, Pepperdine coaches would add another seven gold medals, four silver medals and five bronze medals. Along with Kocur, the Waves finished the 2024 Olympics with silver medal finishes for Head Coach Emeritus
Marv Dunphy of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team who assisted the U.S. women's volleyball team in Paris, and Pepperdine Beach Volleyball Head Coach Marcio Sicoli's Canadian women's pair.
Kocur is one of nine total former and current Pepperdine coaches to be a part of a medal-winning program at the Olympics.
