LOS ANGELES – The Southern California Basketball Hall of Fame has selected Pepperdine men's basketball great
Jelani Gardner to its class of 2024, the organization announced on Thursday.
The list also includes current men's basketball assistant coach
Tyus Edney, who won the 1995 NCAA Championship with UCLA.
Throughout his time as a Wave, Gardner made the All-WCC first team in both 1998 and 1999. The guard played two seasons for the Waves after transferring in and averaged 14.0 points, 4.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds over 59 games for former head coach Lorenzo Romar. He also led the team in scoring, assists, made three-pointers and steals during his senior season and played professionally overseas for 12 years.
An assistant under current head coach
Ed Schilling, Edney played his college career at UCLA under another former Wave in then-head coach Jim Harrick. En route to the Bruins' 1995 championship, Edney drove the full length of the court with less than five seconds remaining and hit the game winning layup at the buzzer to propel UCLA past its second-round opponent, Missouri.
