MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team closed out the last home series of the season Sunday afternoon.

The Waves' (12-36, 6-15) were able to hold off the Pilots (31-17, 16-5) the majority of the game, but solid defense did not turn into productive offense as Portland would take the third and final game of the series 4-0.

Freshman LHP
Collin Valentine (Dallas, Texas) through 5.0 innings pitched only allowed one hit and did not allow any runs.

Junior
Justin Rubin (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) had the Waves only extra-base hit of the day with a double.

Game three of the series turned into a pitcher's duel between Pilot's pitcher Sam Stuhr and Valentine. After five innings, neither team had given up a run and only one hit had been recorded.

Freshman RHP
Jordan Cole (Huntington Beach, Calif.) came in to relieve Valentine in the sixth and kept Portland off the board for the next two innings.

Despite hits by senior outfielders
Connor Walsh (Niceville, Fla.) and
Connor Bradshaw (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Pepperdine could not capitalize and stranded two to end the seventh inning as both teams remained in a deadlock at 0-0.

The Pilots would break through in the top of the eighth. With three singles, the Waves trailed 2-0 by the middle of the eighth inning.

Unable to respond in the bottom of the eighth, Pepperdine trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth with Portland grabbing two more runs off two hits in the top half of the inning.

The Waves struggled to find ground offensively, losing 4-0 as the Pilots completed the sweep.
