#13 Pepperdine Caps off Orlando Trip with Win over #15 Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — Finishing off its two-match road trip at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., the #13 Pepperdine women's tennis team beat #15 Florida 5-2 on Sunday.

The win extends the Waves' (6-2) win streak to four matches — all of which were against top-15 opponents. With the loss, the Gators dropped to 4-5 on the season.

For the second-straight match, Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win after Lisa Zaar and Jasmine Conway breezed through their doubles match with a 6-0 win at the third position. The Waves' top four singles players — Zaar, Broadus, Tjen and Anna Campana — dispatched their opponents to seal the dual match win for Pepperdine.

Pepperdine's top three continued to make their case for being one of the best top threes in college tennis as #13 Zaar, #8 Broadus and #102 Tjen all beat their opponents in straight sets. On the first position, #13 Zaar won her sixth match of the spring against ranked opponents with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over #57 Carly Briggs. #8 Broadus had similar success on court two, as the junior beat #40 Rachel Gailis 6-2, 6-2. Finally, #102 Tjen beat Sara Dahlstrom — who was once ranked as high as #13 earlier this fall — in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. To help Pepperdine's cause, #120 Campana prevailed over Alicia Dudeney with a 2-6, 6-1 (10-8) win at the fourth position, giving the graduate senior her second consecutive win.

Elsewhere, Florida would tack on two singles points with wins at the fifth and sixth positions. Pepperdine's win over the Gators was just the second in school history; Florida leads the all-time series 2-8, yet the Waves have won the last two meetings.
