Men's Basketball Enioys Second Big Win of the Week

MALIBU – Behind another hot shooting afternoon and leading the opposition in almost every category, the Pepperdine men's basketball team enjoyed an 85-57 win over Grambling State on Saturday.

The Waves (4-6) had three players in double-figures including Dovydas Butka who recorded a double-double on the afternoon.

BIG WAVES
  • Stefan Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia/SMU/USF) again led the Waves with 22 points on 5-of-9 three-point shooting while collecting seven boards.
  • Moe Odum (The Bronx, N.Y./Pacific) contributed 16 points and almost recorded a double-double with his eight assists.
  • Dovydas Butka (Panevezys, Lithuania) recorded career-highs in both points and rebounds with 14 and 13 respectively.

KEY STATS
  • Pepperdine out-shot Grambling State at 49% to 38% from the field while also besting the Tigers 43% to 29% from beyond the arc.
  • The Waves forced 14 Tiger turnovers while only committing eight.
  • Pepperdine also out-rebounded GSU, going 42-33 on the afternoon.

RECAP
Odum started things off with a bang for the Waves, draining a three from the top of the key and beginning a 7-0 run for the first three minutes of play. Grambling State finally got on the board after a regrouping timeout from the Tigers, but the Waves scored seven-straight-more to keep rolling. With almost a double-double at half, Butka scored off of fastbreaks by running the floor and catching GSU off-guard on defense. Odum bookended his game-opening efforts by nailing a runner as time expired to take the 38-24 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Todorovic hit four-straight triples to expand the lead to 20 in the opening minutes of play as Butka reached his double-double on a defensive rebound-turned-assist. Odum, who only accrued two assists in the first half, delivered six in the front 10 minutes back on the court while throwing in a three of his own to go up 34 on the Tigers. The game snowballed from there, hitting a 37-point Pepperdine lead for the largest gap of the game that led to an eventual 85-57 win.
