MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive program is set to open the 2025 competition calendar on the road with a double dual meet against San Diego State and New Mexico on Thursday afternoon.
Along with swimming, there will also be 1-meter and 3-meter diving on Thursday.
Meet #10 — Pepperdine (1-3) at San Diego State (5-0) | Thursday, Jan. 2 | 2 p.m. | Aztec Aquaplex | San Diego, Calif.
Meet #11 — Pepperdine (1-3) vs. New Mexico (1-3) | Thursday, Jan. 2 | 2 p.m. | Aztec Aquaplex | San Diego, Calif.
SAN DIEGO STATE — San Diego State is 5-0 in dual meets on the year, which includes a 95-52 victory over Pepperdine back in early October. The Aztecs have also collected a pair of wins over both San Diego and Alaska Fairbanks this season.
NEW MEXICO — The Waves are 0-2 all-time in dual meets against the Lobos with both matchups happening in the last six years. This season, New Mexico is 1-3 in dual meets with a win over Western Colorado. The Lobos lost their other meets against North Texas, Wyoming and Nevada.
ONLINE — There will be no live stream or live results for the meet, however a recap will be posted at
pepperdinewaves.com after the conclusion of the competition.
AWARDS — The Waves have tallied three conference weekly awards this season. Most recently,
Madeline Wheeler earned MPSF Athlete of the Week honors on November 18 after becoming the sixth fastest Wave in program history to complete the 1650 free. She finished her swim in 17:39.57, which was also a season-best time for the Waves. Wheeler also clocked a 5:18.83 in the 500 free, good for the seventh fastest time by a Wave during the 2024-25 campaign.
Alexandra Browne garnered the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 29. Prior to the honor, Browne won all four of her events in Pepperdine's dual meet against Westmont at
Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. She helped the Waves 400 medley and 200 free relay teams take first, while also winning both of her individual races.
Vivian Vallely earned the MPSF Athlete of the Week award on October 8. Highlighted by her second place finish with a score of 283.50 in the 3-meter competition on Friday, Vallely qualified for NCAA Zones in the event for the second year in a row. She then earned another second place finish as she totaled 254.95 points in the 1-meter competition on Saturday.
LAST TIME IN THE POOL — The Pepperdine swimmers last competed at the Trailblazer Invite in Utah in late November where they accumulated 69.50 points over three days of competition and finished in 11th.
Ansley Halbach (400 IM, 4:35.18, 5th),
Emme Spevak (100 fly, 56.98, 5th) and
Sophia Ware (100 fly, 56.99, 6th) all earned spots on the Waves all-time top-10 list.
The Waves divers last competed in the Trojan Diving Invitational at the end of November where
Vivian Vallely earned a top-10 finish in her lone competition of the week in the 1-meter.
Amanda Wong and
Delainey Pisaruk qualified for the finals in all three competitions (1-meter, 3-meter and platform), while
Lexie Martin earned a spot in the finals in the 3-meter and the platform events.
ROSTER BREAKDOWN — The Waves return all three of their All-MPSF second team honorees from last year:
Alexandra Browne (50 free),
Kylie Taylor (100 back) and
Amanda Wong (Platform). Pepperdine also boasts three swimmers who currently hold individual records - Browne (50 free, 100 IM), Taylor (100 back) and
Lexi Haymart (500 free). Additionally, the team brings back everyone from last year's record-setting 200 free and 800 free relay teams in Browne,
Layla Busquets,
Anna Ryan, Taylor,
AJ Adams,
Lexi Fok,
Ansley Halbach and
Lindsay Hemming. The complete breakdown of the roster is seven seniors, fourteen juniors, nine sophomores and five freshman, which includes 28 returners and seven newcomers.
